Professional Standards

Standards of Practice

The clinical, operational, and professional standards that govern how care is delivered at Vita Mobilis.

Effective July 2026 · Informed by AMTA Standards of Practice

These standards provide a consistent framework for safe, evidence-informed, and client-centered care across all Vita Mobilis services — in-studio and mobile. They are based on the Standards of Practice published by the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and adapted to reflect New Jersey licensing requirements and the specific care model at Vita Mobilis.

1. Professional Conduct

All Vita Mobilis therapists maintain an active New Jersey massage therapy license in good standing and fulfill all required continuing education credits for license renewal. Therapists adhere to the Vita Mobilis Code of Ethics in every client interaction, in-session and out. Professional conduct extends to communications, social media, and any context in which a therapist may be identified with the practice.

2. Sanitation, Hygiene & Safety

The treatment environment meets or exceeds accepted standards of sanitation, hygiene, and universal precautions. Specifically: fresh linens are used for every client; massage tables, bolsters, and equipment surfaces are disinfected between sessions; therapists wash hands immediately before and after each treatment; and all applicable OSHA and CDC guidelines for massage therapy settings are followed.

Therapists stay current on contraindications and pathophysiology relevant to massage therapy. When a client presents with a condition outside safe treatment parameters, the therapist reschedules the session and provides an appropriate referral.

3. Client Relationships

Therapists relate to every client with respect, honesty, and care. Before treatment begins, the therapist communicates the planned approach, discusses any findings from the intake and assessment, and obtains verbal consent. Clients are actively encouraged to provide feedback during sessions and to communicate any discomfort, including requests to adjust technique, pressure, or any other element of the session.

Client confidentiality is maintained in full. Health history, session notes, and any personal information collected at intake are used only to plan and deliver care, and are never shared without written consent (see our Privacy Policy).

4. Professional Relationships & Referrals

Vita Mobilis therapists interact respectfully with other healthcare professionals and actively coordinate care when it serves the client's interest. Referrals to physicians, physical therapists, chiropractors, or other specialists are made when presenting symptoms are outside the scope of massage therapy or when the client would benefit from a multi-disciplinary approach. Referrals are always made in the interest of the client — never for financial gain.

5. Records & Documentation

A complete client record is created and maintained for every active client. Records include: the completed health history intake form, signed consent documents, SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) notes for each session, and any correspondence or referral letters relevant to care. Records are stored securely and retained for a minimum of seven (7) years following the client's last visit, in compliance with New Jersey professional record-keeping expectations.

6. Marketing & Communications

All Vita Mobilis marketing — on the website, social media, or any other channel — is accurate, truthful, and consistent with the evidence base for massage therapy. We do not make medical claims, fabricate or exaggerate client outcomes, or misrepresent credentials or training. Client stories published on the website are either anonymized or shared with explicit written consent.

7. Legal Compliance

Vita Mobilis operates in full compliance with all applicable federal, New Jersey state, and local laws and regulations governing massage therapy, including NJ massage therapy licensing law (N.J.A.C. 13:37A), business licensing, and all applicable health and safety codes. Our therapists maintain current NJ licensure and are in good standing with the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs.

8. Continuing Education

All therapists complete the continuing education hours required for NJ license renewal and are encouraged to pursue advanced certifications and specialty training beyond the minimum requirement. Current areas of advanced study include myofascial release, trigger point therapy, cupping, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), nerve mobilization, and sports recovery.
